Very glad to have participated in the workshop Building Quantum Futures at Aarhus University on 8-9 June (exactly 10 years since my PhD defense at the University of Leeds!)
Great discussions, ideas, and projects on how to envision responsible sociotechnical futures for the development, use and implementation of quantum information technologies (QITs).
On my part, I briefly introduced the speculative design of a Quantum Republic (QuRe) as a systemic approach to the governance of/through QITs. Such an approach leverages QITs as pharmakon of the quantum ecology (intended in a communitarian sense) and proposes the design of a hybrid (quantum & classical) governance framework that combines a quantum game theory-based distributed ledger with republican institutional arrangements across scales, in the spirit of nuclear non-proliferation treaty and digital republicanism.
Of course, still a lot of work to do ahead, but it’s rewarding to witness the consolidation of a robust, interdisciplinary community of great people working around these issues.
